Students will be able to:

Big Question

"How do our healthy habits help our friends and family?"

Materials Needed

  • Paper for "Get Well" cards
  • Crayons and markers
  • Stickers (optional)
  • "Health Hero" certificates (teacher made)

Circle Time: We Help Each Other (5 min)

Teacher Says:

"We have learned so much about germs and staying healthy! But here is something really important: When WE do healthy things, we are not just helping ourselves - we are helping EVERYONE around us! When you cover your cough, you are protecting your friends. When you wash your hands, you are keeping your family safe. You are all health heroes!"

Activity 1: How We Help Others (8 min)

Discussion: Who Do We Help?

Our Friends

When we stay home sick, our friends do not catch our germs!

Our Teachers

When we wash our hands, teachers stay healthy too!

Our Family

When we cover coughs, we protect mom, dad, grandparents!

People We Do Not Know

Our healthy habits help everyone in our community!

Key Point: "Some people get very sick from germs - like babies, grandparents, or people who are already sick. When we do healthy things, we are extra-helping them!"

Activity 2: Being Kind When Someone is Sick (5 min)

What Can We Do?

  • Say "I hope you feel better!"
  • Make a "Get Well" card
  • Give them space so we do not catch their germs
  • Be patient if they need to rest
  • Play with them when they are feeling better!

Discuss: It is not the sick person's fault they are sick. We can still be kind and be their friend!

Activity 3: Make a "Get Well" Card (8 min)

Create Cards:

Students make "Get Well" cards to give to someone who might be sick (or to save for later).

  • Draw a happy picture
  • Write "Get Well Soon!" or "Feel Better!"
  • Add hearts, flowers, or stickers
  • Sign their name
Option: Keep cards in a class "Get Well" collection to send when a classmate is out sick!

Unit Celebration: Health Hero Pledge (4 min)

Say Together:

"I am a Health Hero!
I wash my hands to stop the germs.
I cough into my elbow.
I stay home when I am sick.
I help keep my friends and family healthy.
I am a Health Hero!"

Give each student a "Health Hero" certificate or sticker!

Final Review: What We Learned (2 min)

Quick Quiz:

  • "What are germs?" (Tiny things that can make us sick)
  • "How do germs spread?" (Through touching)
  • "How do we stop germs?" (Wash hands, cover coughs, stay home when sick)
  • "Who do we help when we stay healthy?" (Friends, family, everyone!)

Key Takeaway

When we practice healthy habits, we do not just keep ourselves healthy - we help everyone around us! We can be kind to people who are sick, and we can be Health Heroes every day!

K-2 Curriculum Complete!

Students have learned:

  • Unit 1: Air is real, everywhere, and we need it to breathe
  • Unit 2: Tiny things float in the air - dust, pollen, and germs
  • Unit 3: We can keep air clean with filters, fresh air, and washing hands
  • Unit 4: Germs spread easily, but we can stop them with healthy habits

Teacher Tips

Certificates

Create simple "Health Hero" certificates with their name. Kids love having something to take home!

Home Connection
